Richard Pousette-Dart

Richard Pousette-Dart was an Abstract expressionist and part of his work can be considered as an abstract impressionist paintings. Richard was born the June 8th, 1916 in Saint Paul, Minnesota in the United States of America and grew up in Valhalla, New York. His father was also painter Nathaniel J. Pousette-Dart and writer on art.

In 1937 Richard moved to Manhattan. Where he served as assistant to the sculptor Paul Manship. In the 1940s, he was active in the avant-garde New York art world. In 1951 Richard moved to Rockland County in New York, where he lived with his wife Evelyn Gracey.

Their daughter Joanna Pousette-Dart is also a great abstract painter who regularly exhibits her paintings in important contemporary galleries and museums. Their son Jon Pousette-Dart is a musician

and founder of the Pousette-Dart Band.

Richard Pousette-Dart Died the October 25th, 1992 aged 76.

His beautiful collections of abstract impressionism and expressionism are exhibited here: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Gallery of Art.
